Abstract

Navy Special Warfare divers are often tasked with missions that require autonomous operation, high levels of mobility, and protection from contaminated water environments. Currently, there is no integrated dive suit system that can meet these requirements. Crye Associates proposes the development of such a dive suit system. This effort is primarily an engineering and design effort, with the main tasks being: identification of the best materials and components available; engineering a suit system that carefully balances different performance trade-offs; and the development of a design that provides the best functionality and usability. New methods for specific sealing and attachment functions may also have to be created for this particular application. In addition, development costs and end user cost constraints must be balanced against performance.
