Abstract

DIMENSION TECHNOLOGIES INC. ("DTI") PROPOSES TO RESEARCH AND DEVELOP A TECHNOLOGY THAT WILL ALLOW THE MANUFACTURE OF VERY HIGH RESOLUTION AUTOSTEREOSCOPIC (3D) DISPLAYS FOR ADVANCED COMPUTER APPLICATIONS. THIS INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY WILL PROVIDE THE SCIENTIFIC COMMUNITY A TRUE 3D ALTERNATIVE TO CURRENT 3D AND 2D IMAGING SYSTEMS. DTI HAS DEVISED A METHOD THAT ALLOWS THE DISPLAY OF IMAGES WITH A RESOLUTION GREATER THAN THE PIXEL COUNT OF THE LCD ITSELF. USE OF THIS METHOD MAY ALLOW THE PRODUCTION OF AUTOSTEREOSCOPIC DISPLAYS WITH AN IMAGE QUALITY MATCHING THAT OF HIGH-END CRTS. 3D CLEARLY ENHANCES VISUALIZATION AND MANIPULATION OF HIGHLY COMPLEX DATA STRUCTURES. METHODS OF 3D BEING USED CURRENTLY OFFER THE SCIENTIST, PHYSICIAN, OR TECHNICIAN A NUMBER OF DISADVANTAGES INCLUDING HIGH COST, OBTRUSIVE VIEWING (HAVING TO USE SPECIAL GLASSES), IMAGE FLICKER, AND DIMMER VIEWING AREAS. SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE PROPOSED RESEARCH WILL LEAD DTI TO ELIMINATE THESE DISADVANTAGES WITHOUT HAVING TO SACRIFICE RESOLUTION. THIS SYSTEM WILL ALSO BE MUCH MORE COMPACT. THE 3D SYSTEM WILL HAVE MORE CONVENTIONAL APPEAL AND BROADER ACCEPTANCE AS A RESULT. INITIAL APPLICATIONS IN ADVANCED SCIENTIFIC COMPUTING INCLUDE MOLECULAR MODELING AND MRI. DTI WILL BE ADVANCING LCD TECHNOLOGY BENEFITING U.S. BASED MANUFACTURERS OF LCDS AS WELL AS THE MANY USERS OF FLAT-PANEL DISPLAYS.
