Abstract

This work applies to US Navy requirements for shock and vibration testing of shipboard machinery, equipment, and systems. The work described in this proposal will produce the design for a combined shock and vibration testing machine capable of payloads up to 100,000 pounds. A combined shock and vibration testing machine can reduce the cost of testing by eliminating duplication of labor and equipment. No combined shock and vibration testing machines currently exist for payloads of this size. The proposed combined testing machine will extend established hammer technology to larger payloads with increased excursions and more realistic shock inputs. The vibration testing capability of the machine similarly extends mechanical reaction shaker technology to larger payloads and a larger platform than are currently available.
