Abstract

Corvid Technologies is pleased to offer the following proposal in response to solicitation AF081-045, Penetration Survivable Advanced Energetics. We will describe our current capability in modeling of heterogeneous material response to damage which may occur during a penetration event. During a penetration event when the explosive is placed under both compression and tension a variety of damage modes can occur which could cause the explosive to not survive the event. These damage modes could include particle fracture, dewetting (debonding), scission, localized shear heating, void collapse, and energetic response (detonation, deflagration, or burning). In Phase I we will propose a modeling and simulation program that utilizes existing capabilities in modeling energetics to advance development of bulk response models in existing production first principle codes. We will layout a model development and improvement plan for Phase II which includes demonstrating the model’s validity through controlled testing.
