Abstract

Cornerstone Research Group Inc., (CRG) will develop a structurally adaptive morphing wing to achieve a form-fit-improved function replacement wing structure for next generation loitering munitions. Adding aerodynamic morphing capability to loitering munitions increases aerodynamic efficiency, operational efficiency, maneuverability, mission capability, and operational range. This program is focused on design and development of a dual stage morphing wing that will demonstrate the significance morphing aero-structures for munitions. The efforts of this program will lay the groundwork for future morphing munitions concepts. In addition to the development of a morphing wing, CRG will develop a toolbox of common morphing mechanical subsystem designs, and pursue the design of multiple smart-materials-based morphing concepts applicable to the Department of Defense and leading U.S. munitions systems developers.
