Abstract

Compositex, Inc. proposes to develop an innovative material and fabrication technology for higher performing solid rocket motorcases and propellant tanks using readily available, low cost raw materials. The manufacturing process being proposed uses environmentally-friendly thermoplastic raw materials that are non-toxic, recyclable, and non-polluting. This new composite manufacturing process does not require high-cost capital equipment and can be scaled up to enormous sizes, promising to deliver revolutionary improvements in performance and cost effectiveness for solid rocket motors as well as propellant tanks. Other advantages include insensitive munitions compliance, damage tolerance, and resistance to microcracking under high tensile strains.
