Abstract

"Compositex proposes to continue the development of a revolutionary, high-performance stealth UAV platform. The goal is to develop a small fixed-wing UAV platform that is quiet, undetectable by radar, and can sustain flight at very low airspeeds. Theproposed aircraft system utilizes an upper surface blowing device to propel and control the craft, and also enabling it to attain maximum lift coefficients as high as 12. The design concept for this UAV is very simple, allowing a dramatic reduction in thenumber and mass of hardware components, a particularly important attribute with small UAV platforms. It is a very promising concept in terms of improved reliability, maneuverability, all-weather operation, ground crew safety, and noise reduction. Theproposed Phase 2 effort includes in-depth research, the development of an analytical aerodynamics tool, continued design evolution, refinement of fabrication technologies, an extended series of wind tunnel tests with multiple design configurations, thedevelopment of an autonomous flight controller, and multiple flight tests."
