Abstract

A portable device capable of monitoring multiple physiological signals in real time, coupled with a robust data manipulation and analysis ability will benefit virtually all areas of the community. This tool will be invaluable for the entire medical arena offering a cost effective method of vastly improving patient care. The instrument concept we propose in this Phase I effort applies state-of-the-art electronics to move more of the intelligence closer to the point of data collection, and thus supports customization of function through customization of the electrodes. At the same time this approach allows us to maintain standardized back-end capture and analysis modules. The use of common data analysis and capture subsystems provides for integration across multiple varieties of physiological measurements functions.
