Future military operations will increasingly rely on our ability to generate an accurate representation of the battlespace to relay this interpreted information to the warfighter. Our objective in this effort is to develop an Agent-based Semantic DataManagement and Visualization (ASDMV) system that provides Geographic Information System (GIS) services, sensor data interpretation and advanced event visualization to support situational awareness in Military Operations in Urban Terrain (MOUT). In Phase Iwe demonstrated the general feasibility of the approach in the context of a personnel rescue scenario. The ASDMV prototype supported sensor interpretation via interactive sensor agents using rule-based approaches, and efficient information delivery usingevent-centric visualization. In Phase II, we propose to expand ASDMV's capability for enhanced situation awareness by integrating robust GIS technologies for MOUT environment representation and state-of-the-art rule-based technology for sensor data interpretation. In addition toenhanced interpretation and visualization capabilities, ASDMV will provide high-level interfaces for rule management, and will support information interchange standards with external information environments, such as the JBI. While specifically designedfor the Smart Sensor Web, the enhanced ASDMV prototype will comply with DII-COE specifications, and will provide an expandable architecture for a wide range of sensor-based information fusion and visualization applications.
