Abstract

This Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program will address the fabrication and testing of large relaxor based piexolectric single crystals (PMN:PT), to meet size requirements for various DOD transducer applications. Crystals of PMN:PT will be directly grown from the melt in encapsulated plantinum (Pt) crucibles using flux grown crystals as seeds. The expected cylinderical shape (<2 " diameter) will offer the potential of wafer technology as utilizing dopant strategies. TRS Ceramics has an exclusive license from the Pennsylvania State University for the commercial application of piezoelectric single crystals that include actuator and biomedical transducer.
