Abstract

The purpose of this project and the justification for funding is to design and develop a network of miniature video sensors. The system consists of very low cost, miniature, color video sensors (capsules) that are totally integrated and autonomous, including a digital camera, two-way radio, antenna and battery and a network hub which consists of a hand held PDA with a custom radio card. Our goal is to produce the capsules at a target production price of < $100 in large quantities. The foundation of this development is an existing ultra miniature, wireless, color, digital-video capsule, which is used to image the gastrointestinal tract and will now evolve and be transformed into an imaging sensor network, designed to meet the specific requirements presented by this solicitation to combat terrorism, aide in urban combat, crisis mitigation, bio-chem detection and other similar security and defense applications.
