Abstract

With the increased proliferation of software applications, there exists a need to ensure that an orderly and efficient mechanism exists for configuration control of these applications. This project will build an innovative solution that utilizes Web 2.0 social networking concepts. The solution borrows concepts from the well ¬known FaceBook and SocialText Wiki products. In particular, social and ¿architecture of participation¿ aspects of Web 2.0 technology will be used to establish an environment in which participants from the DOE community evolve a comprehensive and adaptive solution to scientific problems. Commercial Applications and other Benefits as described by the awardee: The technology should deliver the following benefits: (1) content will grow exponentially rather than incrementally; (2) the availability of numerical software libraries and the return on investment in their development will increase dramatically; (3) site maintenance will no longer rely solely on availability of a single person or the willingness of a given entity to donate that person¿s time; (4) quality of content will improve as the result of peer reviews and contributions; and (5) the transition of numerical software libraries to multiple platforms and architectures will be substantially facilitated.
